The community is invited to celebrate the legacy of retired Central Lakes College head volleyball coach Jane Peterson with The Friends of Raider Volleyball Celebration. The event takes place from 9 a.m.-1p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 10 in the CLC gym, Brainerd campus. Please RSVP: https://e.givesmart.com/events/CXH/.
Peterson served as head volleyball coach for 33 years and saw unprecedented success in her time at the helm. Compiling a coaching record of 737-318, Peterson led her teams to 18 division championships, 16 Region 13 championships, and several Coach-of-the-Year awards. She also commanded three Raiders teams to the NJCAA National Championships, and for her success, she was inducted into the NJCAA Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2012. Peterson also coached softball at CLC for seven seasons and taught physical education courses for over three decades at the college. Off the court, Peterson served as the volleyball coaches association chairperson, strongly advocating for women’s athletics. Peterson received the 2005 National Girls and Women in Sport Breaking Barriers Award. She has worked tirelessly to advocate for young women to be recognized for their role as student-athletes.
“Jane is a true leader, change agent, an inspiration, a ‘shero’ who has impacted girls and women across the region, state and nation,” said Mary Sam, CLC Dean of Students, Wellness & Equity.
All are welcome to The Friends of Raider Volleyball Celebration. Come for the day or just a portion, and honor Peterson’s legacy through a donation to the Jane Peterson Coaching Scholarship Fund, supporting CLC students pursuing a career in athletic coaching.
The event starts with coffee and an informal gathering for all friends of Raider Volleyball from 9-10 a.m. There will be an alumni scrimmage from 10 a.m.-noon and a light lunch served in the cafeteria from 12-1 p.m. If you can’t attend, but would still like to contribute to the Jane Peterson Coaching Scholarship Fund, you can do so here https://e.givesmart.com/events/CXH/.
