CLC names head football coach

Central Lakes College is pleased to announce the hire of Charles ‘Toby’ Thurman as its new Raider head football coach.

Thurman replaces Greg Medeck, who now serves as Athletic Director at the college.

Thurman has a rich history in coaching football, having done so at both high school and college levels for more than 20 years. As both an educator and coach, he is a strong believer in inspiring students to surpass their limitations on and off the field, building a healthy and caring culture, valuing equity and collaboration internally and externally.

“I truly believe that playing team sports equips our student-athletes with tools and skills that will be beneficial throughout their lives, no matter which path they choose,” he said.

Thurman coached in California at Armijo High School for 5 years. He later served as the assistant running backs coach at Solano Community College, as D-line coach at American River College and as head football coach at Mira Loma High School. He served as volunteer coach at the Brandin Cooks (NFL WR) USA Football Camp. Thurman earned his Bachelor’s Degree of Science from Eastern Oregon University in Physical Education and Health and received his Master of Art from Concordia University Irvine in Coaching and Athletics Administration.

“Coach Thurman has shown a great eagerness to begin this new role as head football coach,” Medeck said. “He has hit the ground running with enthusiasm in recruitment and construction of next year’s team. With his depth of coaching experience and passion for developing student athletes, Toby is prepared to move the program forward into the next era. I eagerly anticipate seeing this team in action next fall under Toby’s leadership.”
