Scholarship

Jeremy Janousek of Staples has received a $500 “tools” scholarship from the mikeroweWORKS Foundation in partnership with the Associated Equipment Distributors. Jeremy is an honor student in the Central Lakes College Diesel and Heavy Equipment Technology Associate in Applied Science degree program. CLC President Larry Lundblad recently presented the award, accompanied by an autographed photo of Mike Rowe of the “Dirty Jobs” Discovery Channel TV show and a certificate. AED is a nonprofit, international trade association representing dealerships and rental companies in construction, mining, forestry, power generation, agriculture and industry. AED membership includes equipment manufacturers and industry-service firms. The mikeroweWORKS Foundation promotes the skilled trades through public awareness and education plus career planning and job opportunities for graduates in programs such as that offered at Staples. Rowe is the founder and host of “Dirty Jobs” who works with the AED Foundation to create and distribute training materials and other educational tools to career and technical schools across the United States. The Diesel Tech program at CLC is affiliated with AED and was among the first in the nation to be accredited by AED since its creation in 1919, according to Dan Gunderson, instructor, who has been involved with the group since 1995. Mike Rowe, creator and executive producer of “Dirty Works” on the Discovery Channel, said that through his support for aspiring students such as Janousek a new generation of laborers will “redefine our nation’s dysfunctional relationship with work.” His mikeroweWORKS.com is currently focused on “the decline in the trades and the crumbling state of the infrastructure.”
