Clay Target Team ranking among the best in the league
The Central Lakes College Clay Target Team is proving that talent and teamwork matter more than numbers. Despite having one of the smallest rosters in their division, the Raiders have an incredible seven shooters ranked in the top 25 across the entire league — out of roughly 260 competitors statewide.
“That’s an amazing accomplishment,” said Head Coach Robb Kolodziej. “When you look at the level of competition in this league, having seven shooters in the top 25 is something really special.”
Even more impressive, three CLC athletes — Benjermin Hagenson, Joseph Kreuser and Jacob Williams — are currently tied for second place overall in the league standings. Their consistency and precision have helped lead the Raiders to the top of their division through the first three weeks of competition.
CLC currently holds a slim lead in their division over Alexandria, with North Dakota State College of Science close behind. As the season enters its final two weeks, the team is preparing to shoot their best to maintain that edge before heading to the state shoot later this fall.
What makes this performance even more remarkable is the team’s size. While NDSCS has 47 shooters and Alexandria 31, CLC has just 19 — meaning every shot counts. League scoring is based on each team’s top 13 shooters, similar to how cross-country team scoring works, giving larger teams an inherent advantage. But CLC’s “small but mighty” squad has risen above those odds.
Within the division, CLC athletes continue to dominate the leaderboard, holding the top six men’s spots and leading among female shooters as well, including first, fourth, and fifth place rankings.
The season will wrap up with the state shoot hosted by Alexandria, where each team’s top five shooters’ scores will determine the final results. It’s shaping up to be a thrilling finish — and CLC is ready to prove once again that big things come from small teams.
The CLC Clay Target team uses Lakes Area Shooting Sports and Staples Sportsmen’s Club as home ranges, practicing and competing on weekday nights.
