Reque-Peterson named CLC Outstanding Educator

Central Lakes College has named psychology instructor Alita Reque-Peterson as its 2025-26 Outstanding Educator, recognizing her excellence in teaching, student support, service to the college, and commitment to student success.

The Outstanding Educator honor is part of the Minnesota State Board of Trustees Award for Excellence program, which recognizes exceptional faculty across the Minnesota State system. Recipients are nominated by peers and recommended by a committee of colleagues.

Reque-Peterson was selected for her ability to connect psychology concepts to real-world experiences, her adoption of open educational resources to help keep college affordable for students, her use of assessment data to continually improve teaching and learning, and her commitment to student success.

“Alita embodies the dedication, innovation, and student-centered approach that define excellence in higher education,” said Dr. Kim Lynch, Interim CLC President. “Her commitment to helping students succeed both inside and outside the classroom has made a lasting impact on our college community.”

Her service to Central Lakes College extends beyond the classroom. Reque-Peterson directs CLC’s annual 5K for Mental Health Awareness and serves as advisor for the college’s Psychology Club. She has also been recognized with the college’s Club Advisor Award and Culture of Caring Award.

“I’m honored to be recognized as CLC’s Outstanding Educator,” Reque-Peterson said. “I believe deeply in the power of education to create opportunities, and I’m passionate about helping students discover how psychology can help them better understand themselves and others while making a difference in their communities. I’m grateful to be part of a supportive community at CLC, where I strive to make a positive impact and a meaningful difference for our students and the college as a whole.”

Reque-Peterson will represent CLC at the Board of Trustees Award ceremony later this spring and will be under consideration for selection as one of several Minnesota State BOT Educators of the Year.
