OER and Zero Textbook Cost Courses at Central Lakes College
Z-Degree courses have zero textbook costs. Typically for Z-Degree courses, instructors will offer either a free online textbook (OER) or a series of links and resources in BrightSpace to replace a traditional hard copy textbook.
OER stands for Open Educational Resource, which is a file that exists online. You can access this file at no cost. There are several ways you can access the OER for your course:
- You can view the OER online from your phone, tablet or computer.
- You can download the OER to a flash drive or personal device so you have access to it even when you are not online.
- Often, an OER is an online textbook that you can have printed at our Campus Print Shop for much less than the cost of a commercial textbook. For more information on how to do this, visit
- Some instructors use a series of links and resources in Bright Space to replace a traditional hard copy textbook. In these cases, you may wish to print individual documents as necessary or as directed by your instructor. Ask your instructor which method she or he recommends.
Ask the bookstore staff for more information on your course, or email the instructor of your course.
