Ethiopia

Sociologist Gary Payne and Mary Rosenberg, a Pine River teacher, will present two free programs with images from their recent time in Ethiopia at Central Lakes College Thursday, March 4. The first Cultural Thursday presentation will be from noon to 1 p.m. in Chalberg Theatre, and the second, in-depth look at Ethiopia is set for 7:30-9 p.m. in E 354, the Lecture Hall, on the Brainerd campus. Rosenberg, an English Language Learner teacher, and Payne, an instructor at Central Lakes College, returned in January from 14 days in the African nation of Ethiopia, one of the most culturally diverse regions on Earth. Rosenberg and Payne visited tribal villages, their marketplaces and whatever schools existed. With per capita income far below that of Haiti, Ethiopia is also one of the poorest nations and is suffering through its fourth year of crop failure due to drought.
