The CLC Performing Arts Center is excited to announce its upcoming production of the musical The Prom, performing from July 23 to August 1 at the Chalberg Theatre, Central Lakes College.
The Prom debuted in 2016 and was nominated for seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Original Score. The story follows four eccentric Broadway stars in desperate need of a new stage. When they learn that a small-town prom is facing controversy, they see an opportunity to put themselves back in the spotlight. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance traditional, but one brave student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom. As Broadway’s brassiest stars join forces with the courageous girl and the town’s citizens, the result is a celebration of love and acceptance.
The production is directed and choreographed by Amy Borash with vocal direction by Koreann Martin, who have both previously worked together on several shows including past CLC productions Kinky Boots and Something Rotten! The team also includes Arsen Engels as Stage Manager, Tim Leagjeld as Set Designer, and Heidi Eckwall as Lighting Designer.
The talented cast includes Abby Pratt (Olivia Keating), Jana Johnson (Dee Dee Allen), Jacob Hanson (Sheldon Saperstein), Travis Chaput (Barry Glickman), Alex Brucker (Angie), Noah Barnhart (Trent Oliver), Teagan Johnson (Emma), Kryston Wiseley (Mrs. Greene), Don Abbot (Mr. Hawkins), Lydia Jendro (Kaylee), Olivia Armstrong (Shelby), Izabella Engholm (Alyssa), Levi Trygstad (Nick), Layton Carlson (Kevin), and Ensemble members Rebecca Aanerud, Jacob Becker, Jacob Beckmann, Brynn Bestland, Riley Dabbs, Brady Davison, Andy Ellison, Joey Haasken, Jenna Hanson, Corissa Kerger, Devin Knopf, Randall Mitchell, EV Norberg, Abby Pratt, Emily Pratt, Mackenzie Pratt, Mackenzie Renford, Jadyn Rust, Deanna Schlagel, Samuel Schlagel, and Brody Schultz.
Joey Yow, Director of the CLC Performing Arts Center, shares his excitement about the show: “We had the highest turnout for auditions for an adult play for this show than we have had at any audition in the past two years. The Prom is a beautiful story and we have a phenomenal group of performers who have poured their hearts into this production. The Prom is timely, powerful, and wonderfully entertaining.”
The show runs from July 23-25 and July 30-August 1 at 7 PM, with a 2 PM matinee on Sunday, July 28. Performances are held at the Chalberg Theatre at Central Lakes College in Brainerd, MN. Tickets are available at www.clcperformingarts.com or by calling the Box Office at 218-855-8199.
