Women win at Vermilion

While the Raider men suffered their first Division loss, 73-64, the CLC women’s basketball team defeated Vermilion, 53-42, Sun., Jan. 31 in a make-up game from Jan. 23. Cassie Pearson scored 17 points and Caitlin Kavanaugh and Trisha Wippler 11 each. Coach Dennis Eastman praised Kavanaugh (left), who hit a trio of 3-point baskets. This was the Raider women’s fourth win against 15 losses. They have a 3-5 Division record. The men were led by Nick Grewe’s 13 points, Erik Peeters’ 12, and Marcus Ayala’s 11. CLC is 17-4 on the year, 7-1 in the Division. On Fri., Jan. 30 the men defeated Hibbing, 76-55, led by Nash Faulk’s 18 points and Milo Prijovic’s 17. The CLC women lost, 52-47, after outscoring the Cardinals, 26-21, in the last half. Carlee Davich had 12 points and Pearson 11. Next: Fri., Feb. 5 Mesabi Range at CLC, 6 and 8 p.m., Sat., Feb. 6, Vermilion at CLC, 1 and 3 p.m.
