Central Lakes College Practical Nursing instructor Sarah Jennissen has been named the college’s 2024-25 Outstanding Educator. This honor includes nominations by students and peers, as well as a recommendation from a committee of CLC employees.
“Sarah’s dedication to students is second to none,” said Dr. Hara Charlier, President of CLC. “She puts her heart into each class and truly cares about each student she teaches, both as a person and as a future Practical Nurse. Every day, Sarah demonstrates our values of excellence, innovation, inclusion and community.”
Jennissen said it’s an honor to be recognized for her work.
“I am passionate about being a nurse. I am passionate about teaching nursing,” she said. “I find it an honor to walk alongside students as they become nurses. CLC gives me the opportunity to have a career that I enjoy and get excited about.”
Jennissen said a key component to her teaching philosophy is the relationship between the student and teacher.
“I think this directly impacts their ability to learn from me. I find it valuable to build this relationship,” she said. “I am among a great group of colleagues. I work within a program, and that means I collaborate as a team of faculty, where we all work together towards the best student outcomes as we teach.”
Jennissen will represent CLC at the BOT Award ceremony later this spring and will be under consideration for selection as one of several Minnesota State BOT Educators of the Year. Previous CLC educators to receive this high honor include Darci Goeden, Betsy Picciano, Adam Marcotte, Kari Frisch and Tanya Hoting-Mrazek.
