In January, Central Lakes College (CLC), in collaboration with Essentia Health, the Central Lakes Community Performing Arts Center, the CLC Office of Equity & Inclusion, hosted ConnectEffect, a live show that focused on fostering connection and empathy between attendees by examining the impact of the “Screen World” upon perceptions of reality and community. The show drew over 280 attendees, and post-show surveys showed 99 percent of attendees recommended the experience to others. CLC is excited to announce the continuation of the ConnectEffect program through May 2024 with Chatty Hour.
Chatty Hour is a lively drop-in event taking place at the Fireside Lounge at CLC in Brainerd, hosted by the CLC Performing Arts Center and the Office of Equity & Inclusion, and facilitated by CLC instructor Jennifer Perez Krueger and the Human Services program. This initiative aims to provide attendees with a relaxed environment to engage in meaningful conversations and forge new connections within the community. This event is free and open to the public.
Scheduled on select dates throughout the semester, Chatty Hour will be led by Human Services students who will lead group chats – easy conversations meant to foster connection and camaraderie. Participants can expect an enjoyable experience where they can socialize, unwind, and build relationships in a low-stakes setting.
Joey Yow, Director of the Central Lakes Community Performing Arts Center, expressed excitement about the extension of ConnectEffect through Chatty Hour, stating, “We believe in the power of ongoing connection to strengthen our community bonds and foster understanding among individuals from all backgrounds.”
Chatty Hour will be held from 3-4 pm on the following dates:
Feb 28
March 6
March 20
April 3
April 17
May 1
This initiative is part of CLC’s commitment to promoting social cohesion and combating isolation within the Brainerd lakes area. By providing opportunities for interaction and dialogue, Chatty Hour aims to contribute to the overall well-being and connectedness of the community.
