Brainerd Community Theatre announces auditions and performance dates for three Summer 2024 shows

August: Osage County

Written by acclaimed playwright Tracy Letts and recipient of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Play and winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, August: Osage County follows the Weston family as they unexpectedly converge on their Oklahoman family homestead after their patriarch goes missing. A maelstrom of repressed truths and unsettling secrets explode in a play that unflinchingly – and uproariously – explores the dark side of this Midwestern American family. The New York Times described August: Osage County as “fiercely funny and bitingly sad, this turbo-charged tragicomedy…doesn’t just jump-start the fall theater season – ‘August’ throws it instantaneously into high gear.”

August: Osage County runs June 6-15, 2024, and is directed by Cory Johnson, whose past shows at Central Lakes College include Silent SkyCollected Stories, and Brighton Beach Memoirs. Roles are available for adults 20+ to 60+, and one female role for an actor in their late teens/early 20’s. Auditions for August: Osage County will be held at Central Lakes College in Brainerd on Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 PM in the Chalberg Theatre, Monday, April 8 at 5:00 PM in the Dryden Theatre, or by individual appointment with the Director before April 8th (to schedule an audition, please send an email to clcperformingarts@clcmn.edu.) Please note that this play deals with mature subject matter and includes significant amounts of profanity – auditionee and viewer discretion advised.

Frozen JR.

Building upon the success of last year’s High School Musical JR., which involved over 50 youth performers from the Brainerd Lakes Area and beyond, the CLC Performing Arts Center and Brainerd Community Theatre are excited to announce Disney’s Frozen JR., performing at the Chalberg Theatre at Central Lakes College, July 11-14, 2024.

Based on the hit Disney movie, Frozen JR. is a story of true love and acceptance between sisters that expands upon the emotional relationship and journey between Princesses Anna and Elsa. When faced with danger, the two discover their hidden potential and the powerful bond of sisterhood. With a cast of beloved characters and loaded with magic, adventure, and plenty of humor, Frozen JR. is sure to thaw even the coldest heart!

Licensed by Music Theatre International, Disney JR. musicals are one-hour adaptations of their full-length counterparts and written exclusively for youth performers. Frozen JR. auditions are open to all actors aged 9 to 18 (or students who graduate high school in 2024).

Frozen JR. performs July 11-14, 2024, and is directed by Amy Borash. Auditions for Frozen JR. will be held at Central Lakes College in Brainerd on April 5 at 5:00 PM and April 6 at 11:00 AM in the Chalberg Theatre. No preparation is required – auditionees will learn a short song and dance routine, and some will be asked to read scenes from the script. Rehearsals will last from May through July, held three to four weekdays per week from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

The Prom

Four eccentric Broadway stars are in desperate need of a new stage. So when they hear that trouble is brewing around a small-town prom, they know that it’s time to put a spotlight on the issue…and themselves. The town’s parents want to keep the high school dance on the straight and narrow—but when one student just wants to bring her girlfriend to prom, the entire town has a date with destiny. On a mission to transform lives, Broadway’s brassiest join forces with a courageous girl and the town’s citizens and the result is love that brings them all together. Winner of the Drama Desk Award for Best Musical, The Prom expertly captures all the humor and heart of a classic musical comedy with a message that resonates with audiences now more than ever.

The Prom performs July 23 – August 1, 2024, and is directed by Amy Borash. Roles are available for teens and adults 20 to 60+. Auditions for The Prom will be held at Central Lakes College in Brainerd on May 16 and 17 at 5:00 PM in the Dryden Theatre. (Note – actors who wish to audition for August: Osage County may also audition for The Prom, and schedule overlaps between the shows will be accommodated.)

More information about auditions can be found on the CLC Performing Arts Center website as well as by emailing clcperformingarts@clcmn.edu. All are encouraged to audition, regardless of experience level!
