Jon Hassler Festival coming in June at CLC

Come celebrate the life and works a Minnesota author at the Jon Hassler Festival being held June 14-15 at Central Lakes College.
Hassler was an English instructor at CLC when he wrote his first book, Staggerford. The college library is now named after him and was designated a literary historic landmark last year.
“Many people in our area may recognize the name Jon Hassler, but might not know much about him. This conference gives people a special insight into his works as well as his life as a Minnesota author, artist and educator. It’s going to be an exciting two days,” said Kari Frisch, Hassler Festival educational outreach coordinator and speech instructor at CLC.

The Crossing Arts Alliance and a committee has organized the festival, which includes a keynote speaker, featured presentations throughout both days, a panel on teaching Hassler, a Reader’s Theatre presentation of “Grand Opening,” a gallery walk of Hassler’s artwork and CLC library’s Hassler artifact collection, and a dinner celebration at Prairie Bay Restaurant with after glow reception featuring special readings and musical entertainment.
“The people involved with the conference and sessions we’ve got lined up really are providing a once in a life-time opportunity,” Frisch said. “We have both continuing education units (CEU) and a graduate credit option available for those that want to document their participation. That’s something many conferences aren’t able to offer and I think it only helps enrich the experience for those that want to take the conference to that next level.”
The cost to participate in the festival is $100. Continuing education units can be earned for an additional fee.
