The Staples campus of Central Lakes College hosted a send-off for veterans headed to Washington,. D.C. as an “honor flight” and recognized all CLC-connected veterans during a lunch-hour ceremony co-hosted by the Staples Lions. The “guardians” are flying to D.C. to visit memorials such as the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, WWII Memorial, Korean War Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, and Arlington National Cemetery. The CLC event was a means to say “thank you” to all serving our country in the military. Among those applauded were students Steve McKay and Troy Houde, Brainerd; Caitlin Robinson, Ironton; Adam Schlangen, Watkins; Dennis Benjamin, Moorhead; Andy Vaverek, Little Falls; Michael Callahan, Baxter; and Larry Helsene, Pillager. CLC veteran staff members honored were Calvin Gudgeon, Dan Gunderson, Don Pfeffer, Kathy Marshik (shown), and Mike Sams.
