Area girls going into 3rd through 8th grade are invited to attend the first ever Girls Empowerment Institute at Central Lakes College. The event runs from 9 a.m-3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7. Parents and guardians are invited to attend closing ceremonies at 2:15 p.m.
This Institute will empower, excite and provide permission for girls to be their best and lead, both off and on the court/field/pool/mat. Girls will have the opportunity to work on skills, as well as participate in hands-on sessions designed to cast away self-doubt and negative messages about what defines being a girl and what it means to be a queen.
A full day of sessions, lunch, fun and powerful messages from some great female role models:
- Create YOUR own story! Kimberly Pilgrim and Adrienne Benjamin
- Don’t give up on ME! Jean Martin
- YOU Can! Jane Peterson
- Get to know YOU! Shelly Boyum-Breen
Participants should come in clothes to play in. Each girl will receive a Shelly Bean the Sports Queen book to share, a certificate of attendance and their own crown.
Because of support of a grant from the Brainerd Lakes Area Women’s Fund, the cost is only $30. Registration is limited to 75 girls. Deadline to register is Monday, July 29. Contact Jane Peterson for more info jane.peterson@clcmn.edu.
The event is sponsored by CLC Athletics and children’s book author Shelly Boyum-Breen.
