Attorney and author Roberta Walburn will discuss her new book, “Miles Lord: The Maverick Judge Who Brought Corporate America to Justice” at the next Rosenmeier Forum, held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 3 in the Dryden Theatre, at Central Lakes College’s Brainerd campus.
Born into a humble family on Minnesota’s Iron Range, Miles Lord rose to become one of the most colorful and powerful federal judges in the country, blazing new trails in corporate accountability, women’s rights, environmental law, and consumer protection. He was described as “an unabashed Prairie populist” and “a live-wire slayer of corporate behemoths.”
Walburn is an attorney based in Minneapolis. She has been named among the most influential members of the legal profession in state history and recognized by the University of Minnesota for “shaping the legal landscape for the benefit of society.” Previously, she worked as a reporter for the Minneapolis Star Tribune and as a legislative assistant to U.S. Senator Paul Wellstone.
Steve Wenzel, Executive Director of the Gordon Rosenmeier Center on State and Local Government, said, “The Rosenmeier Center is indeed fortunate to have a CLC forum with Roberta Walburn, a respected journalist and author of the definitive biography of the Miles Lord, arguably one the greatest jurists in all of Minnesota history who fought so valiantly for the consumer and the common man.”
