Verse Like Water: The visiting poet program of Central Lakes College, will host MacArthur Fellow Ellen Bryant Voigt on at noon on Oct. 30 in the Chalberg Theatre, Brainerd campus.
One of the great lyric voices in American literature, Voigt has written seven books of poetry and has been a finalist for both the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award. She lives in Vermont and is a professor in the MFA Program for Writers at Warren Wilson College.
“I am so excited Ellen Bryant Voigt is kicking off the sixth year of programming for this reading series,” said Jeff Johnson, CLC English instructor and proprietor of Verse Like Water. “Over a thousand people a year are coming to these readings to hear the great voices of American poetry, and Ellen will joyfully enlarge the space and vision of the preceding 15 poets, standing shoulder to shoulder with Billy Collins, Robert Hass, Marie Howe, Tracy K. Smith and others who have enjoyed inspiring the Brainerd lakes region.”
This literary event will be followed by a book signing and an informal craft talk at 1:30 p.m. As all Verse Like Water events, this is free and open to the public. It is sponsored by the CLC English Department, Five Wings Arts Council and Minnesota Public Radio.
