Ojibwe artist and author to speak for Nov. Cultural Thursday

In conjunction with American Indian Heritage Month, Central Lakes College will host the revered Ojibwe artist and author Cheryl Minnema for a Cultural Thursday event at noon, Nov. 3 in the Chalberg Theatre, CLC’s Brainerd campus.

During the Cultural Thursday presentation, Minnema will share some of her photography, digital art and beadwork, in addition to talking about her inspirations.

Writer and beadwork artist Cheryl Kay Minnema is a member of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe. A 1998 graduate of Central Lakes College, Minnema went on to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Elective Studies at St. Cloud State University and her Masters Degree in Fine Arts at Hamline University in St. Paul. She has served the Minnesota community through countless workshops and demonstrations of her digital photography and intricate beadwork. She also recently published her children’s book titled “Hungry Johnny,” which tells the story of how a young boy learns respect and patience while waiting for the elders to eat at a community meal.

Minnema will be available for a book signing after the Cultural Thursday presentation. For more information about this or any of the Cultural Thursday presentations, please contact Tracey Kloeckl-Jiménez tkjimenez@clcmn.edu or 218-855-8183.
