Student, retired veteran recipient of Patrick Abrahamson Scholarship

IMG_3391This year’s recipient of the Patrick Abrahamson Scholarship Fund is Central Lakes College Marine and Small Engine student Shawn Thayer.

Faye Abrahamson presented a check from her and the Brainerd American Legion in the amount of $2,000 this week.

Thayer, a retired Army veteran, said he appreciated the honor.

The scholarship is named for Pat Abrahamson, who was an instructor in both the Automotive and Marine and Small Engines programs at Central Lakes College. This donation makes the scholarship fund into a permanent endowment, forever leaving a legacy to Patrick Abrahamson and his many years of helping students succeed.

The funds are the result of a raffle conducted at the recent Legion Fall Rendezvous, where a deer rifle is raffled of in Pat Abrahamson’s memory. All proceeds of the Rendezvous are used each year to support nonprofit organizations in the lakes area, schools and veteran organizations.

The Patrick Abrahamson Scholarship is awarded annually and is available to either automotive or Marine and Small Engine students at CLC.
