All-American to Florida A & M

All-American defensive end Frank Mays of Central Lakes College has signed a
Letter of Intent to play football at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University
(Florida A & M). Frank will receive a full athletic scholarship to play for
the Tallahassee school of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The NCAA Division
1-AA school of 13,000 students has a winning tradition. Last year the Rattlers finished at 7-4, losing to
Bethune-Cookman, 26-16, in the Florida Classic at Orlando. Frank, a Bemidji native, earned honorable mention on the
Division III All-America team announced by the National Junior College Athletic
Conference. He had 47 tackles and 8.5 sacks in 2011 and 42 tackles and 6.5
sacks in 2010.

“Frank has anchored the CLC defense for the last two years,” said CLC
Head Coach Greg Medeck.  “He has been near the top in statistical
categories for his first two seasons. Frank has also developed into a
leader, which earned him the status of captain in 2011…
“While I have been pleased to work with Frank and watch him develop
these last two years, I am probably more excited to follow the next step of his
journey. Frank has incredibly potential, and I am certain he will flourish at
the next level. His work ethic and desire to achieve will definitely keep
him on course to a successful career.”
The 6-foot-10, 255-pound standout also was named to the
All-Southern Division first team of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference,
joined on that honor squad by sophomore teammates Dan Ngandali, Buffalo
defensive back; Averey Duncan, Stillwater wide receiver; Greg Wright, Milaca
linebacker; and Ryan Tri, Eden Valley wide receiver; and freshman Jared
Hoemberg, Bertha defensive back. Five other Raiders were second team and five
were honorable mention All-Division.
CLC went 7-3 in the 2011 football season.
Before deciding on Florida A & M, Mays had visited Carolina
Coastal and Texas Southern to investigate scholarship offers.
