The Central Lakes College Earth Day Fair was held Wednesday, April 20 on the Brainerd campus. Dozens of displays lined the Cafeteria Commons area, many supplied by students in the CLC Natural Resources, Horticulture and Environmental Studies classes. Student Sharia Merten of Brainerd brought in a few of her reptiles, including a pet turtle and two crossbred corn snakes. They fascinated even the youngest guests. Beth Hippert from the Soil and Water Conservation District directed the installation of a water garden outside the west entrance. SWCD also sold out of half-price portable composting bins. About 35 eco-oriented table displays and vendor exhibits filled the event space. Videos were shown, children’s environmental activities took place, and drawings for door prizes concluded the day. April 18-22 is Earth Week. More images at http://www.flickr.com/photos/58518185@N04
