Central Lakes College President Larry Lundblad congratulates student Stephanie Kinnsey of Brainerd on her selection as honoree for the May 21 Northern Lakes Arthritis Walk on the Paul Bunyan Trail. Stephanie will lead the awareness event and fundraiser for participants who may choose to cover up to three miles. It starts at the Northland Arboretum trailhead. The Central Lakes College team, coordinated by Deb Breneman and Raz the Raider, will accompany Stephanie, who graduates in May with her Associate in Arts degree. She plans to attend either the University of Minnesota or the University of Colorado to pursue a major in kinesiology, the study of human movement. Diagnosed at 14 with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, she suffered from the swollen and painful joints before finding relief and remission. But at 19 the ailment returned and continues to challenge her quality of life at 23. Stephanie works as a hostess at Grizzly’s and tutors students in mathematics at CLC, still earning top grades through exceptional determination. She hopes for a good turnout at the kick-off/fundraiser Thurs., April 21 at Northland Arboretum, where there will be hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, green-screen photography, DJ, and speakers from 5-8 p.m. A $10 donation gets you in.
