Peace Corps volunteer to speak about Colombia

A Staples-Motley High School graduate will be the featured speaker at the next Cultural Thursday at Central Lakes College. Abby Edin will talk about her time volunteering for the Peace Corps teaching English in Colombia. The event is at noon on Thursday, Dec. 6 in the Chalberg Theatre, Brainerd campus. It is free and open to the public.

For six months in 2016, Abby Edin volunteered with the Peace Corps to teach English in Colombia, while experiencing the community and culture of the country. She will share what she learned and how her time on the Caribbean coast of Colombia influenced her future travels and career plans.

Edin graduated from Staples-Motley High School in 2010. She went on to study Spanish Education and Teaching English as a Second Language at Bethel University in St. Paul. After graduating with her B.A. in 2014, Abby taught English Language Learners (ELL) in Long Prairie. She then briefly served as a substitute teacher in the Staples-Motley School District as she prepared to teach the English language and serve with the Peace Corps in Colombia. After her time with the Peace Corps, Abby taught English as a Second Language in the Little Falls School District and is also currently helping to teach the Spanish Language and Culture(s) in Little Falls.
