CLC announces launch of its Dental Hygiene program

Central Lakes College is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Dental Hygiene program, designed to address the growing need for skilled dental hygienists in the region and across the state.

Pending accreditation by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA), the program is projected to begin in Fall 2025. Accreditation approval is expected in early 2025. This two-year program will welcome 15 students each fall semester, offering them hands-on training and a pathway to a rewarding, well-paying career in dental health care.

Applications for the inaugural class will be accepted from January 1 through March 1, 2025.

“This will have a huge impact on our communities,” said Katie Thalberg, Director of Dental Hygiene and Assisting at CLC. “Both for the dental community and offices in our area, being able to provide dental hygienists in the workforce and increase access care to their patients. Also, at our on-campus dental clinic, we will be able to provide the full scope of preventive periodontal care for many outside patients at a low cost, increasing access to care to the general public who maybe can’t afford dental cleanings at a regular dental office.”

Nick Heisserer, Dean of Brainerd Career & Technical Programs, added, “The decision to launch this program reflects CLC’s commitment to meeting workforce demands and supporting the health of its communities. Students will get the highest training possible in our state-of-the-art, newly remodeled dental clinic, and they’ll work alongside our experienced instructors, who are passionate about dental hygiene.”
