Student Marsha Culbreth awarded the Dr. Nathie Marbury ASL Honor Society Scholarship

Central Lakes College student Marsha Culbreth has been awarded the prestigious Dr. Nathie Marbury American Sign Language Honor Society scholarship.

Culbreth, of Little Falls, is finishing her second year at CLC and will be graduating in May with her Deaf Studies Certificate.

The American Sign Language Honor Society and the American Sign Language Teachers Association sponsor this $1,500 scholarship. Current students majoring or minoring in the study of American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf Culture/Studies, Deaf Education, or ASL/English Interpreting are eligible to apply.

The mission of the ASLHS and the AMLTA is to perpetuate, preserve, and promote ASL and deaf culture through instructional excellence. They offer five national scholarships of $1,500 annually, in memoriam of a valued member of their community, Dr. Nathie Marbury.

Culbreth is the second Central Lakes College ASL student to be awarded this scholarship. Deaf Studies student Kyara Topp was awarded the honor in 2023.
