CLC welding students place in Skills USA competition

Two Central Lakes College welding students earned top honors in the 2020-21 SkillsUSA Minnesota conference. The competition, held each year, brings welding students from across the state to compete in the individual welding competition.

CLC PSEO student Ethan Strong competed in the high school division. He placed second place, earning a silver medal.

CLC student Caleb Hasbargen competed in the college division and won first place, earning a gold medal. Hasbargen will now compete at the national leadership conference held in June.

“I am very proud of both the students. Both share a personality of always wanting to improve and make every weld better than the last,” said CLC Welding instructor David Otto. “They are what we call ‘FILOs’, or first in, last out. They are usually the first one to school and the last ones to leave. This is something that employers in our field look for, and the results of their hard work showed at this competition.”
