The Central Lakes Community Performing Arts Center announces two summer theatre workshops geared for students entering grades 1-4 and 5-9. Taught by local writer Mary Aalgaard, also known for her blog ‘Play Off the Page,’ the workshops will be held during the month of June.
The first workshop will be June 10-14 and tailored for kids in grades 1-4. Students will have the opportunity to create their own characters and work together to create a play. The theme for the workshop is ‘Fairy Tale Island,’ where characters come together to have a nice vacation but something goes horribly wrong. Students will work on acting skills, writing, and creating props and artwork for the set.
The second workshop, for kids in grades 5-9, will be June 17-21. The theme is ‘Extreme Adventure Camp,’ where campers discover more is at stake than adventuring, gather clues to a mystery, and return to camp to share their discoveries. In addition to performance and writing skills, students will have the opportunity to create props, costumes and other artwork.
Both workshops will feature performances for family and friends on the final day of class. The workshops meet from 10 a.m. to noon in the Dryden Theatre on the Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College.
Fee for the workshops are $55 per person, which is non-refundable. To register for a workshop call Jean at (218) 855-8253.
