Four Central Lakes College students placed in a recent Behind the Mask welding competition. Out of 150 competitors, four CLC students took top spots:
Oxy fuel cutting
3rd Kelsey Saba
Gmaw
2nd Dominic Nistler
GTAW:
1st: Bronson Nistler
2nd: Jack Shane
“The welding students work all year on skill welds. Competitions like Behind the Mask are an opportunity for students to compare themselves to other students from all over the state and region,” said David Otto, CLC Welding instructor. “More importantly, the competitions are an opportunity for students to feel the anxieties and pressures they will have during a job interview, where they will have to perform some kind of a welding test. The students learn something each time they compete. There can only be one winner, but if each student learns something from the experience that helps them grow in there career path, then I feel we all win and it benefits the students.”
