Our last literary event this year will feature the great Rowen Ricardo Phillips in the Chalberg Theater at noon on April 29th.  Afterwards, a book signing that can’t be beat in the Chalberg lobby, and special thanks to the Olseth Family Foundation for providing 175 hard cover copies of his latest book, Silver. This time out, the informal craft talk will be in beautiful E339 at 1:30pm.

Dr. Rowen is a tier one poet with six books of poetry, all put out by Farrar Strauss and Giroux, the most prestigious press in America. For sports fans, I will deploy a quote from his Blue Flower Arts page, almost in MLA format: A prodigious sportswriter, Phillips has written on sports for the New York Times Magazine, the New Yorker, the New Republic, and the Paris Review. His basketball writing has been collected by The Library of America’s seminal collection on the sport, Basketball: Great Writing About America’s Game. His book The Circuit won the PEN/ESPN Award for Literary Sports Writing. He served as a curatorial consultant for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum’s The Souls of the Game: Voices of Black Baseball exhibition, which opened in 2024 (BFA). And, Rowen is a professor of creative writing at Princeton, a university some of you might have heard of.
