What Happens During The School Year?
|
Summer ProgramWhat happens during the Summer Component of the program? The Summer Program is a six week, technology driven, hands-on learning experience for Upward Bound students. Participants are invited to live and study on a college in the college dormitories. Participants are involved in a wide variety of pre-college courses. “Hands-on” experience highlights the work. The summer component also employs self-esteem and team building activities that will increase the probability of secondary and post secondary success. The Summer Program is a great experience and gives students the opportunity to work in small groups, travel, visit other post-secondary institution campuses, experience what college life is like, and get to know other participants from around the region. Making new friends is always one of the highlights from students in the Upward Bound Summer Program. The location of the summer program may be subject to change. From 2004-2005, the Summer Program was at Bemidji State University. At the present, Central Lakes College Upward Bound is partnering with the College of St. Benedict/St. John’s Upward Bound to hold a Summer Program in St. Joseph MN. At the Summer Program, students are provided free of charge with dining service meals, dorm rooms, bed sheets, snacks, and a positive, safe environment provided by a summer staff of college students to make the experience a positive one. It is mandatory that all newly admitted Upward Bound students experience at least one Summer Program. For a list of Upward Bound's Policies and what to bring to the summer program, click here
