How Do I Apply?

Typically, Upward Bound staff present to 9th  graders in target high schools in the Fall. After a presentation about the program, Upward Bound staff pass out applications to interested students. Students and Parents then fill out the application and turn them in to their school’s Guidance Counselor or Principal. Upward Bound staff will meet with the school staff to discuss the candidate. After the application is collected, an invitation for the applicant and parent(s) to interview for the program is sent out to the interested student. After successful completion of the interview, the candidate is informed as to whether they can be provisionally accepted into the program.

Provisionally accepted students may begin the program in January. At the end of the year, Upward Bound staff make final decisions on whether to accept students into the program. The first event officially accepted students may attend is the six-week summer program.

Participant Qualifications

Central Lakes College Upward Bound can select and admit 8th-11th Grade students. These students must also meet economic guidelines established by the DOE and/or be a “first generation” student. A “first generation” student is one whose parents/guardians do not have a four-year degree from a college/university. All students must qualify in one of these two categories. Priority is given to students who qualify in both areas.
