Central Lakes College expects all students and
faculty to uphold the highest standards of academic integrity , and acts of academic
dishonesty will not be tolerated. Academic dishonesty includes, but is not limited to the
following examples of conduct:
- When a student misrepresents her/his work;
- When a student violates the academic rights of another student;
- Cheating on assignments or exams, uses materials during a test not
authorized by the instructor;
- Submitting papers or assignments written by another person
(student, commercial agency, etc.);
- Copying from another student's paper;
- Stealing, buying or selling copies or conveying test items or answer
sheets;
- Plagiarizing on papers and other assignments;
- Consenting to have one's work used by another student as her/his own;
- Falsely reporting information or actions in clinical or class room
laboratories;
- Depriving other students of necessary course materials by stealing books,
periodicals or other materials from the library, AV Center, labs, etc;
- Submitting the same paper, or substantially similar papers, to meet the
requirements of more than one course without approval of instructors concerned;
- Interfering in a harmful way with another student's work; for example,
sabotaging another student's lab work or entering or deleting data in another student's
computer work; and
- Unlawful duplication of copyright materials.
Consequences:
In all cases, a student found guilty of academic dishonesty will receive a minimum of
"F" on the project, test or paper involved and may receive a grade of
"F" for the course. Depending on circumstances, a harsher punishment may be
recommended by faculty, including suspension from the college. Appropriate consequences
recommended by faculty, beyond the grade of "F" will be determined in each case
by the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Student Affairs.
Process:
A student accused by a faculty member of academic dishonesty may wish to accept
without contest the consequences of his/her situation. A student who feels he/she has been
unfairly accused may appeal to the Academic Appeals Committee for a hearing. If
dissatisfied with the judgment of the Academic Appeals Committee, the student may appeal
to the President or the President's Designee. The decision of the President or the
President's Designee is final.
In cases in
which a student is accused by another student of academic dishonesty , the Dean of
Academic Affairs and the Dean of Students will attempt to resolve the situation between
the students. If they are not successful, either student may appeal to the Academic
Appeals Committee. This may be initiated through a conference with the Dean of Student
Affairs or the Dean of Academic Affairs. If dissatisfied with the judgment of the Academic
Appeals Committee, the student may appeal to the President or the President's Designee.
The decision of the President or the President's Designee is final.
Note: These guidelines are currently under review. Any revisions
will be published and distributed separately . Central Lakes College's policies on
Academic Integrity are published in the college catalog.
