Clubs & Organizations

As a student, it is so important to study and attend all of your classes regularly. For many students it is also important to get involved, and become a part of campus life. At Central Lakes College, you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of clubs and organizations. You'll have the chance to make friends and engage in new experiences. Read on for more information about the exciting opportunities that await you.

Brainerd Campus Clubs and Organizations

Spanish Club
The Spanish Club is open to all students interested in the Spanish Language and connected cultures. Our mission: Provide culturally authentic activities in a multi-generational venue. Our meetings are led by CLC students, while our events include community and family. We have a weekly Spanish-speaking gathering: LA MESA; held on Tuesdays at 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. at the NW PIZZA and BAGEL. We sponsor an annual FESTIVAL LATINO to fundraise for student scholarships. Monthy activities tend toward season cultural celebrations; Day of the Dead, Virgen de Guadalupe day; Carnival, 5 de mayo etc. Please join us as we celebrate languages and cultures of the Americas! Diversity Leadership Council 
The Diversity Leadership Council (DLC) is a student leadership group designed to represent all areas and programs (technical, liberal arts, clubs/organizations, athletics, etc.) at Central Lakes College (CLC). DLC works in conjunction with CLC's faculty/staff Diversity Committee on campus wide diversity initiatives and goals as outlined in CLC's Diversity Strategic Plan. Students leaders advocate for diversity matters and provide feedback, ideas, and suggestions on how to build a diverse community at CLC. DLC is involved in a variety of activities/events on campus including "Our Town", co-sponsoring "Dream Alive" and "Celebration of Nations," a collaboration (mentorship) program with Brainerd High School (BHS) and Forest View Middle School (FVMS), and we are excited to host Climb Theater's production "A Deeper Look" this year. Meetings are held every Tuesday from 12:00-12:50 p.m. in C223. DLC members are primarily nominated by faculty and staff but anyone who has a strong interest in diversity is welcome to join! Advisor Tashana Husom husom@clcmn.edu

Psychology Club
The Psychology Club is a CLC student organization open to all students with an interest in psychology. The club explores careers in psychology, performs service on campus and in the community, and works to educate the campus and community regarding psychological problems. The club also includes a Psi Beta chapter. Psi Beta is a national honor society for psychology students at 2-year colleges. Advisor Martha Kuehn mkuehn@clcmn.edu

Law Enforcement Club
The Sigma Delta Law Enforcement Club is very active in our Brainerd area community. The Law enforcement club volunteers with at many events such as Tent City, and Highway Clean-up and traffic control at an elementary school along with participating in competitive events with students nationwide at our ACJA National Conference. CLC Equality Coalition
The CLC Equality Coalition is an affirming group that supports students from all diverse backgrounds, but the focus of the group is supporting the GLBT community on campus. The group is made up of GLBT students and allies. Advisor Christina Kavanaugh ckavanaugh@clcmn.edu

Natural Resources Club
The Natural Resources Club is a great way to get involved in the protection and conservation of our local natural resources. The natural Resources Club is involved with many activities that benefit the local wildlife and community, such as stream and road cleanup, building and maintaining bluebird houses to promote the native bird species around the college, and activities with local wildlife groups to help improve habitat in the Brainerd area. ASL 'PAH' Club
Our goal is to promote awareness about Deaf culture while improving sign language skills by interacting with the Deaf community. Come practice your sign skills and make new Deaf friends. Advisor Tanya Hoting-Mrazek thotingm@clcmn.edu

International Club
CLC International Club is a group open to all students and is aimed at furthering International understanding among CLC students (both International and local) and the community. Some activities include sponsoring events such as International Education Week and Celebration of Nations. We also spend time together as a club, just having fun and getting to know one another, as well as volunteering throughout the community. Horticulture Club
Hort Club is a group of students that base their activities around plants. We better the world with plants, raise money with plants, and we learn more about plants. We volunteer our time in the community and also plan fun social events. Advisor Theri Wasnieski twasniew@clcmn.edu

Dental Assistants Club
The dental assistant club is designed to help students gain organizational skills in a team effort and to bring awareness to democratic rules through fundraising activities and community service. Advisor Julie Morgan jmorgan@clcmn.edu

Accounting Club
Our Mission is to provide learning support to accounting students, as well as the general student body at Central Lakes College through accounting services to clubs and organizations. Initiate collaborative business relationships with local accounting firms for job shadow and internship opportunities. Art Club
The CLC Art Club provides a forum for students interested in the visual arts. It provides opportunities that go beyond the classroom experience, such as: field trips, visiting artist, lectures. In addition the Art Club strives to enrich the cultural climate of Central Lakes College through participation in the operation of the CLC Art Gallery. Advisor Mic Stowell mstowell@clcmn.edu

Veterans Club
The Veterans Club helps support the Veterans Resource Center, and helps raise money for veterans, military members, and family members in the community. Advisor Tyra Osvold tosvold@clcmn.edu

Green Club
The Green Club is comprised of dedicated, excited students who advocate for environmentally friendly practices on campus and beyond. The students have been involved with: promoting ride-sharing, clothing and outwear collection and distribution, collecting holiday lights for recycling, promoting energy conservation, education during Green Week and Earth Week, end-of-semester paper (notebook) recycling, and more. They believe in global connections and local action. The Green Club was honored by being selected as the CLC Brainerd Campus Club of the Year, 2009-2010. Advisor Sandra Kaplan skaplan@clcmn.edu

AD Nursing Club
The CLC AD Nursing Club is a club for students who are currently enrolled in the AD Nursing program on the Brainerd Campus. As a club, the members seek to improve the educational experience of nursing students by participating in additional training and volunteering throughout the local communities. The club also maintains some of the more traditional nursing practices, including the organization of an annual Pinning Ceremony for all graduating AD Nursing students. Dance Club
Central Lakes Dance Club is a club for everyone who enjoys dancing. We meet twice a week and work on special routines that we perform at Central Lakes Raiders Football and Basketball games. CLC Dance Club combines many forms of dancing such as hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, ballet, and pom into our approx. 3 minute routines. Everyone is welcome and no experience is necessary, just come and have some fun! Advisor Suzanne Karsnia skarsnia@clcmn.edu

Phoenix Project
The Phoenix Project is a club and a literary journal that showcases Central Lakes College writers and artists. The journal is published annually and seeks entries in the following categories: short fiction, poetry, drama, visual art, and song. Advisor Matthew Fort mfort@clcmn.edu

CLC Junction 122
The purpose of Junction 122/CLC is making Christian disciples who are being transformed by Christ, who changed their world. Advisor Jeff Dirks jdirks@clcmn.edu

Soccer Club
The purpose of this club will be to stimulate interest in and to foster the goals of the CLC Soccer Club which include hosting weekly soccer games, working with the community, and providing opportunities for students at Central Lakes College to learn about the game and history of soccer. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society
Phi Theta Kappa's mission is two-fold: 1) recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students and (2) provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming. Welding Club
Welding Club members are enthusiasts of metal art work, fabrication, repair, sculpting, and welding practices used in industry. Members utilize their skills and further their education in the field of welding and fabrication. Brainerd PN Nursing Club
The PN Nursing Club helps prepare student nurses for professional responsibilities and promotes unity among student nurses. Members serve the CLC community with special events such as blood pressure checks, flu shot clinics, and an annual health fair. Advisor Jessica Herron jherron@clcmn.edu

CLC Spirit Club
The Spirit Club seeks to encourage school spirit through dance and involvement in college athletic events. Advisor Deb Breneman dbreneman@clcmn.edu

IT Club

Staples Campus Clubs and Organizations

Creative Imaging Association
The Creative Imaging Association is an organization which provides students an opportunity to capture and share experiences in the medium Photography and Imaging. The group has its home-base on the Staples Campus. Members of the group become involved in various local photography and community projects. Advisor Bruce Fuhrman bfuhrman@clcmn.edu

Heavy Equipment Club
The Heavy Equipment Clubs primary purpose is to provide the students of the club with the opportunity and exposure with the greater college as a whole and to reach out to the very community that the college serves. Most of the activities the club partakes in are of an outdoor nature and include but are not limited to, Annual Equipment Rodeo, Scavenger hunt, Launch fishing field trips and trade oriented field trips. The club also looks for volunteer opportunities that help local churches and residence. Interested individuals should feel free to contact a club officer and join. Robotics Club
The purpose of this organization will be to stimulate interest in and to foster the goals of the Central Lakes College Robotics Club which are to acquire future student’s interested in the field of robotics, automation, and electronics in order to apply the technical knowledge learned at Central Lakes College to secure a career in the Robotics Industry. Farm Business Management
Our Farm Business Management Club is composed of students that are actively farming or attempting to purchase a farm. Our club tries to promote, mentor and provide education to those seeking to enter the profession of production agriculture or already is an established producer. Advisor Bob Rick brick@clcmn.edu

Medical Assistants Club
The Medical Assistant Club promotes health and well being for all. We promote involvement in our community and within the college. We participate in service learning projects to help others. It is our goal to promote the occupation of Medical Assisting in a positive manner so others are aware of the duties performed by a Medical Assistant. Advisor Dawn Michel dmichel@clcmn.edu

Staples AD Nursing Club
The Staples AD Nursing Club exists to enrich the education of those students in the AD Nursing Program at CLC. We do this by seeking out volunteer opportunities, fund-raising for activities, performing various health related activities, seeking out opportunities for specialized health certification and funding the traditional pinning ceremony at the end of the program. Graphic Design Club

Diesel Club
