Satisfactory Academic Progress

Central Lakes Colleges and the MnSCU Board Policy 2.9 requires that all students make satisfactory academic progress toward a degree, diploma or certificate to remain in good academic standing. The College also believes that students are responsible for their own academic progress and for seeking assistance when experiencing academic difficulty. Central Lakes College's Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy impacts student's Financial Aid and Registration status. The summary of the Policy is as follows: student's must maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 and a cumulative completion percentage of all courses (including transfer credits) of 67%. Students who do not maintain both of these cumulative averages are placed on Warning Status after one semester and Suspension status the next semester if they are not able to meet Central Lakes College's cumulative standards.  The entire policy may be viewed here.

If you would like to determine whether you are meeting Central Lakes College's Satisfactory Academic Progress standards, please visit GPS Lifeplan's GPA and Completion Rate Estimator.

Appeals Process

Central Lakes realizes that occasionally a student’s failure to make satisfactory academic progress is due to extenuating circumstances and have developed an appeal process for these situations. A student may submit one appeal per semester.
Appeal Criteria
The following criteria will be used as the basis for an appeal:

  • Student injury or illness that required a prolonged absence (A doctor’s statement is required as documentation).
  • A death in the immediate family (Documentation required).
  • Military call for active duty.
  • A change in circumstance, for those returning to college after an extended period of time.
  • A well developed academic plan for success.

Appeal Documentation

Please indicate in the appeal whether you plan to submit documentation. Documentation may be attached electronically to the appeals form or be sent via US Mail to:
Registrar, Central Lakes College
501 West College Drive
Brainerd, MN 56401

or via email to nheisserer@clcmn.edu

.

Appeal Information
When submitting an appeal, the following questions must be answered within the appeal written at the College Level (no spelling, grammatical, or punctuation errors):

  1. What were the circumstances that caused your suspension?

  2. What is your career plan or why are you attending college?

  3. Please provide a detailed plan for your academic success along with support systems you have in place to ensure that success.

  4. What will you do differently to ensure your success?

Appeal Evaluation
All criterion for appeals are evaluated using the Appeal Outcome Form

Appeal Submission
All appeals must be submitted electronically. If you have questions related to your appeal or are in need of assistance, please contact the Central Lakes College Registrar at (218) 855-8038.
Please click here to access the appeals form (requires you to create or log in to your Dynamic Forms Account)

Appeal Results: Students will be nofied by Dynamic Forms of their appeal results. If a student's appeal is approved, the student will be placed on contiuing probation and be expected to meet their academic plan requirements of maintaining a 2.5 grade point average and 100% completion rate each term until their cumulative grade point average is a above a 2.0 and their cumulative completion rate is above 67%. Students who fail to attain a 2.5 grade point average and 100% completion rate each term while on contiuing probation will be suspended again from Central Lakes College and required to re-appeal. If a student's appeal is denied, the student may re-appeal for the next semester. Central Lakes College has established a secondary appeals process for students to use in the event they wish to contest the outcome of their original appeal.
