Title: Reading I
Department: Reading Course: READ 0591 Credits: 5 Prerequisite: appropriate Accuplacer score Description: Reading I is designed for students who wish to improve their basic reading skills. Coursework includes developing a set of strategies for reading and responding to different types of college textbook reading with an emphasis on general comprehension of written material, vocabulary development, and effective reading & study techniques. (Placement into this course will be according to the college reading assessment score). (4 credits, 4 lecture) This is a preparatory course designed to improve college level reading skills and does not count toward graduation. |

Department: Reading Course: READ 1500 Credits: 3 Prerequisite: appropriate Accuplacer score Description: Reading II emphasizes critical reading strategies and college-level vocabulary. It presents college reading as information processing and focuses on strategies for improving comprehension, selection, organization, and recall. Reading materials represent a variety of academic disciplines and occupational areas. Prerequisite: successful completion of Reading I or appropriate Accuplacer scores. (4 credits, 4 lecture) This is a preparatory course designed to improve college level reading skills and does not count toward graduation. |

Title: College Reading
Department: Reading Course: READ 1401 Credits: 3 Prerequisite: appropriate Accuplacer score Description: The goal of this course is to provide students with strategies for becoming independent college readers and learners. This course provides students whose assessment scores in reading indicate the ability to read at the college level with strategies for successfully understanding the reading requirements of college texts and supplemental materials. Emphasis on engaging in reading using a critical thinking, problem-solving approach will support students in developing their own learning strategies to succeed in a variety of college reading situations.
