Clubs and Organizations Fundraising Policies, Procedures, Information and Forms (pdf) As a student, it is so important to study and attend all of your classes regularly . For many students it is also important to get involved, and become a part of campus life. At Central Lakes College, you will have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of clubs and organizations. You'll have the chance to make friends and engage in new experiences. Read on for more information about the exciting opportunities that await you. Art Club Law Enforcement Club People United for Peace (PUP) Phi Theta Kappa Student Senate Involvement in Student Senate provides student participants opportunities to develop individual leadership skills, gain experiences in policy development and legislative relations, and to develop an understanding of the responsibilities in the decision making process. Student Life / Activities Programs allow for the individual and group interaction and promote personal development through programs, activities, intramurals, non-academic clubs and symposiums. The Student Senate sponsors a number of programming events surrounding Homecoming, Snow Daze, and hosts the Annual Awards Ceremony commemorating students and staff at CLC. Organized Activities are provided for student cooperation and competition in individual or group efforts, and allow for the demonstration of students' talents. These activities involve: Athletics, Drama, Music, Print/Media and leadership in Student Government. Academic Related Activities Intercollegiate Athletics CLC is dedicated to providing an exceptional experience to its student athletes. CLC student athletes are encouraged to reach their potential through demanding daily practices. Those who are willing to dedicate their time and efforts to a competitive college athletic program are invited to participate in Raider athletics. Raider athletics has a proud tradition of fielding successful teams that have brought respect and a healthy reputation for sportsmanship to the region. Central Lakes College is a member of the Minnesota Community College Conference (MCCC) and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). All teams (with the exception of football) can qualify to compete for a state, region and national championship Intramurals Theatre Productions are mounted in the John Chalberg Theatre, a 289-seat proscenium theatre, and the Bob Dryden Theatre, a flexible black box space with seating up to 200. CLC Theatre boasts modern lighting and sound equipment, a well-equipped scene shop, and computerized box office system. Academically, students can pursue a theatre emphasis as part of the AA degree, choosing from courses such as Intro. to Theatre, acting, Creative Drama, Directing, Stage Makeup, Technical Theatre, and Costuming. Under development is an AS degree program in technical Theatre to give students the opportunity for advanced studies in Lighting and Sound for the theatre, Scene Painting, Stage Management, Theatre Management, and Theatrical Design. Additionally, students in the AS program will take course in welding, robotics, and electronics from college course offerings. Because of its thirty-year history of excellence in the Brainerd Lakes Area, CLC Theatre draws thousands of people from as far as 100 miles away to its annual productions. The Theatre has an established Children's Theatre program, and a reputation for producing an eclectic assortment of theatre works. Students in theatre can also qualify to join Delta Psi Omega, the national theatre honorary society for two-year colleges. But perhaps the most attractive part of the program is the immediacy and variety of theatre experiences offered to students from their first days in the program. With a large number of work study positions and scholarships available, CLC Theatre strives to make theatre accessible and fun for the theatre-minded student. Art Exhibits Music Westbank Journal The newspaper is printed monthly in a professional format using the latest in desktop publishing techniques. All work on the paper is done by students. Each year several positions are open to students at the college. In the spring of each year, the editorial staff is chosen for the following year. Any of these positions which go unfilled are offered to new students throughout the academic year. Each fall all students are offered the opportunity to become reporters, photographers, advertising sales personnel, and layout and design artists. No experience is needed. To become a member of the Westbank Journal staff, contact the editor or faculty advisor. Students working on the newspaper can receive credit through the media practicum courses or payment through financial aid. However, students cannot get both credit and be a student employee at the same time.
