Why the Westbank Journal?

westbank-001What’s behind the name?

Sure, there’s the obvious geographical tie of The Westbank Journal: CLC’s Brainerd campus is on the west bank of the Mississippi River. The Staples campus, you guessed it, falls on the west bank of the Crow Wing River.

But The Westbank Journal has even deeper roots here at Central Lakes College.

It was a student-operated campus newspaper, which first hit the stands in the late 1970s. It started out as The Westbank Review, taking its current name in the mid-80s. In its prime, the publication put out full newspapers, fliers and information notices. Beverage companies and local businesses even placed large advertisements on the pages.  After funding dried up, the operation came to a close in 2011.

We’re bringing back a piece of history with the online resurrection of the Westbank Journal. This is your go-to place for everything happening at or around CLC. Get a steady stream of updates with our social media outlets. Read about student and staff achievements in our news page. Get sports scores, theatre performance schedules and just about everything else here.

The Westbank Journal belongs to the students and staff of Central Lakes College. Get involved. Pass along photos, calendar events, news tips or anything else you want to see on these pages.
