Central Lakes College was awarded a $10,000 Ask Every Student Implementation Grant through the Ask Every Student program.
Ask Every Student, a project of the National Resource Consortium on Full Student Voter Participation, seeks to create processes, systems and tools, collaborating with leaders at institutions, to make full voter participation a reality.
Central Lakes College will use the grant to hire CLC students as Democracy Fellows. The fellows will be working hard over the next couple of months to make sure that every student has a plan to vote. The Democracy Fellows are not concerned with who students vote for, but are focused on making sure that every student exercises their right to cast a ballot.
“According to the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement out of Tufts University, our 2016 voting rate for our students was 61 percent,” said Erich Heppner, Director of Student Life at CLC. “We hope through peer-engagement efforts such as the Democracy Fellows that we will increase our voting rate and produce life-long voters.”
