Natural Resources students present their project findings at Camp Ripley

Three Central Lakes College Natural Resources students have been working at Camp Ripley this summer in our 2018 summer internship program. They recently presented their work and findings to Camp Ripley and CLC officials. The three students are: Kelly Sipper, from Crosby-Ironton; Destiny Mankowski, from Fort Ripley, and Noah Jendro, from Little Falls.

Great work, everyone!

 

Here are the areas they worked on this summer:

Bird related:  

– eagle/osprey nest surveying, osprey and American kestrel bird banding

– point count bird call surveys

– blue bird and wood duck nest box monitoring

 

 Insect related:

– Tiger beetle surveys

– bumble bee surveys

– Monarch butterfly survey training

 

Mammal related:    

– telemetry on wolves, bears, white-tailed deer

– Plain’s pocket mouse trapping

 

Herpetology related:

– Blanding turtle surveys

– frog and toad calling surveys

– snake fungal disease surveys

 

Plant related:      

– plant surveys

 

Miscellaneous:

– hosting tours for different environmental and school groups & kids’ camp

– prescribed fire work
