Two CLC teams to compete for top spots this weekend

Two of Central Lakes College’s sport teams are competing for top spots this weekend.

The Raiders football team is chasing history in becoming the first team in school history to become 11-0.

Following last weekend’s victory against Ridewater, the Raiders punched their ticket to the MCAC State Championship game Sunday, Nov. 6 at St. Cloud State University. They will face North Dakota State College of Science (NDSCS), the team that defeated CLC last year.

CLC has moved up top No. 7 in the NJCAA National Football Rankings. NDSCS is No. 15 in the national poll.

In Raiders volleyball, the team stringed together two key wins over last weekend against conference opponents Rainy River and Hibbing. That earned their spot in the Region 13B Tournament this weekend.

The win over Rainy River helped them clinch the No.1 seed, and claim home court advantage throughout the playoffs up until nationals. The Raiders finished the regular season with a 13-1 conference record.

CLC will host No. 4 Mesabi Friday at 6 p.m. for the Region 13B Semi final. The winner will play the winner of the Rainy River vs. Itasca game. The team that wins Region 13B will go on to Nationals in Rochester, MN Nov. 11-12.
