Osirus Washington: CLC Raiders look to stay unbeaten

42htnyghhun5zahtThe nationally 10th ranked Central Lakes Raiders football team, led by 2nd year stars Kyree Mclean (2) and Teddy Sherva (25), remain unbeaten. This week they will face conference foe Northland. A win will cap off an undefeated season and give them the upper hand in the playoffs. They will have the opportunity to finish the season in front of home fans Saturday at 1:30 p.m.

This has been a sensational season for Coach Medeck and the undefeated Raiders. They have an average margin of victory of 26 points per game. They also have a balanced offensive attack combined with an atrocious defense.

Starting running back Teddy Sherva was last week’s MCAC player of the week, racking up 122 yards and 4 rushing touchdowns at Vermillion. Sherva also leads the nation in rushing yards per game at 113.1 yds/game.

Sherva isn’t the only back to have recent success. True Freshman third string Kejuon Burton looks to build off of three consecutive games with a touchdown after not having one at all in the first four games. When I asked Kejuon how it felt to be on the hot streak he said, “When I get the opportunity to be on the field, I have to seize it. I understand Teddy is a second year player and a beast so I have to accept my role and make the most of it.”

Burton is from St. Paul, MN and attended St. Paul Johnson High School, where he was a standout back. “All conference” he said. “I can’t think about my high school career, it’s time start making noise on the collegiate level.”

Burton and the Raiders have high expectations and expect to stay undefeated this week against Northland. They should get it done in a blowout fashion and proceed to 8-0 heading into the playoffs.
