Brainerd Awards Day

The Brainerd campus of Central Lakes College held its annual Awards Day on Wednesday after a free lunch to the first 400 diners in the campus cafeteria. Award winners included Natural Resources instructor Kent Montgomery (pictured), Outstanding Faculty; Lori-Beth Larsen, Outstanding Adviser (International Club); Myron Stevens, Outstanding Staff (Maintenance); Rick Kangas, Outstanding Administrator; and students Adam Schlangen, Catie Sabin, Steve Sabin, Cody Platta, Melanie Mankowski, Santiago Continenza, and Abra Fish. Academic Achievement winners (4.0 GPA) were introduced, and Natural Resources won both Club of Year and Department of Year honors. Business Student award winners were Mary Monn and Mary Richards. Marcus McDonald received the Trio Student of the Year honor. Writing awards were announced. Several other departments cited colleagues and students for efforts in support of their particular missions.
Writing Awards – Co-sponsored by the CLC Foundation and Student Senate, the English Department presented awards in poetry, fiction, and essay writing judged by non-affiliated writers. Honorees were Poetry: 1. Kirsten Gudgeon, Staples; 2. Eric Bowman, St. Louis Park; 3. Neela Jarrott, Brainerd; Fiction: 1. Jason Rochelle, Deerwood; 2. Maggie Desmond O’Brien Tiede, Brainerd; 3. Jean Hopkins, Brainerd; Essay: 1. Cassidy Conklin, East Gull Lake; 2. Julie Jo Larson, Brainerd; 3. Rochelle.
