Pete Lucken, Tyler Wohlwend, and Adam Tautges (pictured) hit doubles as the Central Lakes College baseball team lost to one of the MCAC powerhouses, Riverland, at Findorff Athletic Complex on the CLC campus in Brainerd. Riverland has been to the college-level World Series the past two years and carries a roster of more than two dozen players, including three from Australia. Ted Rohr picked up a loss as the Raiders were tagged for 19 runs on 15 hits, with only Jon Rempel and Tony Madsen reaching via hits during the 19-0, five-inning loss in Game One. It was a different story in the second game, as CLC showed determination and competitiveness. Spunky CLC catcher Tautges slapped an RBI double in the first inning to get it going. The home team had the tying run at the plate in the seventh before losing, 5-2. “We could’ve rolled over and played dead after that first game,” Coach Pat Held said. “The guys we have left aren’t quitters.” Eleven Raiders suited up for the chilly twinbill Monday. Josh Edwards drove in the Raiders’ second run with a single in the fifth. The next opponent, St. Cloud Technical and Community College, is ranked fifth in the NJCAA Division III poll. CLCplays at St. Cloud Friday and hosts the team on Saturday.
