Golf

The CLC men’s and women’s golf teams don’t have a single player from last year’s teams. But the Raiders hope to be competitive in the 2010 season, which opened Sept. 1 as they hosted a match they won over Hibbing in men’s play, 333-376 at the Legacy. The next outing is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 7 in the Ridgewater Invitational in Willmar. On the men’s side, sophomore Paul Albrecht of Woodbury transferred from Century College, which dropped its golf program. Albrecht helped Century finish second in last year’s Minnesota College Athletic Conference and Region 13 championships. In his CLC debut, Albrecht was runner-up by a str0ke to teammate, freshman Jared Cowden of West Fargo, N.D., who took medalist honors with an 80. Cpmpleting the men’s roster are freshmen John Sund, West Fargo, N.D.; Cody Cederberg, Hawley; Nicholas Smith (Brainerd Dispatch photo), Perham; and Tim Thorson, Brainerd. Last year, the Raider men finished fifth at the state and regional, one of the lowest finishes in program history. The women’s team currently has only freshman Dayna Pearson of Aitkin on the roster, according to The Brainerd Dispatch. Last year’s team won the state and regional. Morgan Morris of CLC was the medalist against Hibbing Sept. 1 with a 105, reports the MCAC.
