2008 Adult Educational Workshops

*  Create a Decorative Mosaic Pot - Mar 27 & Apr 3 (6-8 pm) $25.00 fee

Instructors—Marge Meyer and Mary Vogel

Transform a plain clay pot from boring to beautiful. Learn how to use broken pottery, tile and marbles to create a beautiful pot.  Two sessions are required to complete this project but you will make another “surprise” pot at the second session.  

 

 *  Identify & Control Fruit Tree Diseases-April 10 (6-8 pm) $25.00 fee

Instructor—Thaddeus McCamant, MnSCU Specialty Crops

    Learn which fruit diseases are common in central Minnesota and how to identify each disease.  Tips given on controlling or preventing diseases that attack plum, cherry and apple trees.  Bring questions and diseased branches from your trees.

 

 * Spring Plant Sale & Free Workshop - May 22 (6-8 pm) Free

     Discover which annual plants will work in your yard or in your containers.  Master Gardeners will be available to answer questions.  A variety of annual plants will be offered for sale.   Learn to make a plant container from “almost free” materials.

 

 *  Horticulture Day - August 14 (5-8:30 pm) $10.00

Instructors - U of M Master Gardeners, U of M Extension,   ndustry Representatives, and MnSCU Instructors. 

     Enjoy an evening of workshops, walking tours, vendors, and a silent auction.  Watch for further information.

 

 * September Harvest - September 9 (6-8 pm) Free

    Join a group of enthusiastic gardeners and crafters in learning basic harvest and preservation methods for herbs and flowers.  We will gather the materials to use in the October class. 

 

*  Corn Husk Creations - Oct. 16 (6-9 pm) $25.00

Instructors - Mary Sperley, Becky Roelofs, Shirley Judd.  

    Have fun while learning to use natural dyes and “plain ole” corn husks to make flowers.  You will use the corn husk flowers and other dried materials to decorate a grapevine wreath. 

 

*  Holiday Balsam Wreath - Nov. 20 (6-8 pm) $25.00

Instructor— Burt Knandel, retired CLC Instructor

    Create your own fresh balsam holiday wreath and then decorate with your choice of trims.  A  huge assortment of ribbons & trims will be provided.

 

Children’s Gardening

Students who have completed kindergarten, first or second grade may participate in the Children’s Gardening Program which meets every other Wednesday morning beginning June 4, 2008. This program is taught by a Master Gardener.  Registration is $25.00.  The class is limited to 12 students with priority given to new       students.  Call Staples-Motley Community Education at 218-894-2497 to pre-register.

 

Advanced Children’s Gardening

Students who have completed third, fourth or fifth grade may participate in the Advanced Children’s Gardening Program which meets every other Tuesday evening beginning June 3. 2008.  This program is taught by a    Master Gardener. To pre-register, call Staples-Motley  Community Education at 218-894-2497.  Registration is $25.00. The class is limited to 16 students.

 

Project Together

Adults with special needs are invited to have fun gardening and crafting with a Master Gardener.  The sessions will meet every other Tuesday evening throughout the summer beginning June 3, 2008.   Call Staples Motley Community Education at 218-894-2497 to register.
