Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy

Appeal Process

Central Lakes Colleges and the MnSCU Board Policy 2.9 requires that all students make satisfactory academic progress toward a degree, diploma or certificate to main in good academic standing. The College also believes that students are responsible for their own academic progress and for seeking assistance when experiencing academic difficulty. However, Central Lakes realizes that occasionally a student’s failure to make satisfactory academic progress is due to extenuating circumstances and have developed an appeal process for these situations.

Appeal Criteria
The following criteria will be used as the basis for an appeal:

  • Student injury or illness that required a prolonged absence (A doctor’s statement is required as documentation).
  • A death in the immediate family (Documentation required).
  • Military call for active duty.
  • A change in circumstance, for those returning to college after an extended period of time.
  • A well developed academic plan for success.

Appeal Information

When submitting an appeal, the following questions must be answered within the appeal:

  1. What happened or what were the circumstances that lead to the suspension?

  2. What support systems do you now have in place to ensure academic success? (For example, reduced work schedule, day care, or transportation)

  3. What is the career plan or why are you attending college?

  4. What will you do differently to ensure your success? ( For example, work with a counselor, or get academic tutoring)
