|
What is work study? |
- Work study is a financial aid program
that pays a student for working. Work study may be awarded to a student when their financial
aid file is complete, have "need"
and indicated an interest on the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student
Aid). The work study award will be on the student's "Official Award" letter.
The "Official Award" letter may be viewed
online or a paper one is also
mailed to student.
- Work study funding may be from the federal or state government.
- A work contract is required.
The work contract will require copies of identification such as a
driver's license and social security card.
- Timesheets need to be completed by the
work study student and supervisor, then turned into the Financial Aid
Office every two weeks.
- Currently at CLC the work study wage per hour is $7.50. The
wage per hour has to meet the state requirements for minimum wage.
- The number of hours per week that can be
worked is predetermined by the financial aid office.
- Some work study positions may be located
on
the college campuses or an area elementary school.

How does a student find a job
and start working? |
- When an "Official Award" letter is
received check to see if
"Work Study"
is one of the awards.
This award is an estimate and it is not a guarantee you will find a job
or be able to earn the whole amount.
- The job list (below) for fall semester
is usually available online approximately two weeks prior to the start of the
academic year.
- Review the job list and contact the supervisor listed
for the job you are interested in.
- When you have found a job you will need
to request a
"Work Study Contract" at the Financial Aid Office (FAO).
Complete the contract with your supervisor and return it with a copy of your
social security card and driver's license to the FAO.
- Within a few days your supervisor will
receive your timesheet.
You may then begin working. Do not
start working until the timesheet is received by your supervisor.
Timesheets need to be turned in every two weeks to receive a paycheck.
Please complete
timesheet correctly.
- You may choose to have your paycheck
directly deposited (recommended) into your
checking or savings account or it will be mailed to your
local address. The direct deposit form is available at the FAO.
