Post-Secondary Child Care Grant

What is the Post-Secondary Child Care grant:
This grant is offered from the State of Minnesota.  It is available to student's with dependent children for which child care expenses are being paid.  This is for students attending college classes.  Post-Secondary refers to college not high school students that are taking college classes.
How to qualify:
  • Be within the income and family size guidelines.
  • Student must not be receiving MFIP.
  • Have to be enrolled for at least 6 credits in a term to qualify.
  • Meet qualifications for the Minnesota State Grant.
  • Have a complete financial aid file at CLC.  The income and family size on the FAFSA is used for the guidelines above.
How to apply:
  • There is an application that needs to be completed. 
  • It is usually available after June 1st of each year. 
  • Prior to June 1st there is an application waiting list. Please sign up on the waiting list available at the Financial Aid Office. Then when applications arrive one will be mailed to you.
  • After June 1st applications are available online or in the financial aid office.
Process of awarding and receiving:
Processing of the first awards does not usually happen until the first or second week of fall semester.  Awards after that are as funds are available and applications received.  Many times there is a waiting list for awards due to funds being depleted.
  • Awards are first given to previous year recipients,
  • Secondly to those on the application waiting list prior to June 1st.
  • Lastly in the order the remaining applications were received.
  • An award notice will be sent to the student along with a few documents that have to be completed and returned to the Financial Aid Office.
  • Once the documents are returned to the financial aid office the award is usually available to the student within two business days.  The Business Office disburses the award to the student.
