2008-09 Changes for Financial Aid

 Major Changes!!!!!!!

Number 1:  Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available after January 1, 2008.  Electronic is the name of the game.  The Department of Education is now encouraging "FAFSA on the WEB" as the preferred way to submit an application.

Recent statistics show that only 3% of all submitted FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) applications were paper applications.  Due to the steady decline in the number of paper FAFSAs being submitted the Department of Education has chosen to no longer send paper FAFSAs  to the Financial Aid Office on college campuses.

Here are the ways you may file a FAFSA:
     1.  FAFSA on the WEB at www.fafsa.ed.gov .  FAFSA on the WEB worksheets are available at the
CLC Financial Aid Office or online at www.fafsa.ed.gov .
     2.  Renewal FAFSAs are available to returning students using the
www.fafsa.ed.gov and your Department
of Education PIN.  If you no longer have or do not remember your PIN please go to
www.pin.ed.gov to
request a duplicate or reestablish an old  one.
     3.  To request a paper FAFSA call 1.800.433.3243.
     4.  A PDF (printable) version of the FAFSA will also be available at
www.FederalStudentAId.ed.gov.
Click on "FAFSA Filing Options" on
the right hand side of the screen. Scroll down to "Complete
a PDF FAFSA" and choose the option that suits you.

Please feel free to contact the Financial Aid Office staff if you have any questions or concerns about applying for financial aid for the 2008-09 school year.

Number 2:  To complete your financial aid file at CLC there may be less paperwork for you to do.  Many students will need only to complete a CLC Financial Aid Information Form.  Others will still need to do a Verification Worksheet and submit a copy of  2007 Federal Tax return.  Please use the "Financial Aid Status" report to determine what form(s) are needed for your financial aid file.
For your privacy and protection, it is the policy of the CLC Financial Aid Office to shred any documentation received in our office that is not required at that time for determining your financial aid eligibility.
