Policy Title:

Installation of Outside Software on Computers in Faculty and Staff Offices and Suites

Policy Description:

This policy provides a formal procedure to evaluate, approve, and install outside software or any software that has not been preinstalled on computers by Media Computer Center personnel.

 

 

Faculty and staff often find it helpful to use various types of personal or educational software packages on computers in their offices or suites. This software can, at times, conflict with other software previously installed on the computer. It may also result in hardware conflicts and may cause peripheral equipment to malfunction.

Our goal is to avoid incompatibility problems and difficulties arising from improper or incomplete installations. Therefore, we provide the following guidelines for use of all software not previously installed by Technical Services personnel.

A request to install outside software must be submitted to the Technical Services Department. A form for this purpose is available in the Media Computer Center.

All outside software, must be properly licensed to the user. A copy of the license agreement must be made available to Technical Services personnel for review and approval.

1.   Requests for use and installation of outside software, including personal software, test banks, and software provided with textbooks, must be made to Technical Services personnel. A form for this purpose is available in the Media Computer Center.

2.   A copy of the licensing agreement and the software must be made available to Technical Services Department personnnel at the time the request is made.

3.   The software and licensing agreement will be reviewed and approved or disapproved for use by Technical Services Department personnel.

4.   Approved software will be installed by the computer technician.
